BONIC is free, open source software developed by the University of California, Berkeley. You can volunteer your computer’s idle time to help cure diseases, study global warming, discover pulsars, and do many other types of scientific research. Just pick the project you want to support (such as SETI@home), install the free software, and when your screensaver starts running the idle power of your computer will start to process calculations that will help the cause you selected. Available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
